Mission
Initiatives in renewable energies at Songhaï aim to:
. Find alternatives in the problems of energies: " no rural growth without energy solutions "
. Show the importance of renewable energy as a factor of production
. Supplement conventional energy in neglected rural zones
. Make production units self-sufficient in energy/to reduce costs
. Increase the value given to vegetables and animal by-products
. Interest learners to value renewable energies.
Description
· Energy management and innovations
· Adaptation of renewable energies to the integrated agricultural production system
· Development of several types of renewable energies: biogas, solar energy
· Training – Strengthening the young people’s skills
· Electrification of breeding and accommodation buildings
· Setting-up of water pump and irrigation systems
Experiences
. Electrification of accommodation buildings in Parakou / Savalou
· Lighting with sun lamps in the Songhaï Village and in the restaurant in Porto Novo
· System of pumping and irrigation with solar energy
· Functioning of refrigerators based on solar energy
· Installation of biogas units on Songhaï sites
. Direct use in kitchen
. Compression and storage
. Generation of electricity and heat
· Installation in the military camp in Benin
· Setting-up of biogas and solar energy on farms at national and regional levels
· Specific training modules and assistance in installation / operation
· International partnerships
Prospects
· Strengthen the use of renewable energies at every level: electrification of accommodation buildings in Savalou and Parakou, solar irrigation systems, solar energy for: ventilators, (water oxygenation) for the hatching ponds in fish farming, new biogas units, etc.
· Develop electricity production technique from biomass (gasification) and other technologies in this domain
· Promote the adaptation / accessibility of these systems in the village environment
