Partners of the Mechanical Workshop
Since its creation in 1996, the mechanical workshop
at Songhai has entered into a number of partnerships in order to resolve
difficulties regarding the purchase of primary materials and equipment
(Songhaï France, Électricien sans Frontière Haute
Garonne) as well as regarding training, research and development of
new materials (Entreprise works, GERES, CSU, AFVP).

The partnership between the Songhai Center and has been in existence
since the creation of the mechanical workshop via the employment
of a technical support volunteer. Thus since 1996, three volunteers
have succeeded: Martial and Martine Dumoux(1996-1999), Nicolas
Lesjosne (2000-2002) and Pauline Schlosser since October of 2002.
Created in 1963, AFVP offers young adults the
possibility to manifest their concrete solidarity towards populations
in difficulty throughout the world. In the countries where it
exercises its activities, AFVP attempts to support and reinforce
the initiatives of local civil organizations. Taking into account
the multiple problems that weigh heavily on the local environment,
it aids them in conceiving of and putting into place realistic
and sustainable solutions.

The progressive volunteers act as technicians,
organizers, or mediators. AFVP thus attempts to strongly valorize
local human resources. 370 Volunteers of Progress, are currently
working in a team with more than 300 national empoyee, in close
to 40 countries.

Arcade is a group of reta service de la solidarité

CODEART
http://www.codeart.org |
 |
CODEART was founded in February of 1988 at the
initiative of a Haitian association (Les Ateliers-Ecoles de Camp-Perrin
-AECP). Les Ateliers-Ecoles de Camp-Perrin (The Workshop-Schools
of Camp Perrin) manufacture, as our workshop at Songhai, a large
range of machines and tools destined for rural development both
for groundwork as well as for agricultural product processing.
CODEART was thus created in order to respond to the needs of the
South :
- In purchasing primary materials that are not
locally available.
- In the purchase of equipment that allows for
the installation of rural artisans.
- In the research of technical information regarding
methods of production and technology transfer.
Thus a first shipment of raw materials and tools
for the Porto-Novo workshop and the new Parakou workshop is scheduled
to arrive at the end of 2003.

GERES |
 |
For the past 20 years, GERES has installed local
and economic development and actors in the Mediterranian and in
the nations of the South, its knowledge in order to well manage
projects of an environmental, energy, and agricultural nature.
Our professional methodology is supported by a project based engineering
logic and an elevated understanding of local and regional concerns.
The development projects are based upon a strong local partnership
with associations, enterprises, collectives, and institutions
with the goal of assuring continuance of what is acquired.
In this manner the mechanical workshop and GERES
have finalized various pieces of equipment
in order to facilitate and permit conservation of agricultural
products in equatorial countries. The objective being the accompaniment
of private operators and groups within their revenue generating
(conservation post-harvest, artisinal drying, low level transformation
etc...)

 ENTREPRISE
WORKS |
 |
Enterprise Works (Ex ATI-Benin) was founded in
1999. Its role is to facilitate technology transfer from the countries
of the north to the countries of the South. The engineers of Enterprise
Works helps via exterior consultants finalizing agricultural equipment
prototypes which they then put at the disposition of the local
partner (fabrication of equipment by Songhai) for sales and distribution.
Thus since 1999, Enterprise Works has developed with Songhai:
The NASSU furnace (focus improved for cooking)
NAGUEZE pomp
