Mechanics Workshop
of Songhaï center
Aware of the fact that agricultural development cannot take place without the development of agricultural machines, Songhai began an agricultural machinery development program in 1996.
Songhai has equipped itself with a machine production workshop as well as a research and development center for the invention and creation of new machines. The goal of the machine fabrication department is the development of appropriate technologies through the research, realization, and fabrication of machines and methods adapted to the socio-economic context of farmers, with the goal of increasing their productivity in agriculture and the agro-food processing.
Today, two principle channels have been effectively developed thanks to the R&D efforts of the machine conception department: palm oil and "gari" (manioc flour). In fact, the manual/ motorized Palm Nut Remover, the steam cooker, the manual/ motorized Dekanme press (palm oil press), and the purifier are examples of machines developed by Songhai and its technical partners and implemented at the local level for the processing and resource maximization of palm nuts in Benin and West Africa. These machines are efficient-considerably increasing the production output at each level-and are relatively well known and backed by a clientele of repeat customers. For tapioca flour processing, the motorized, stationary or mobile grater and the double-sided press with storage cart greatly ease processing operations. A third method, the drier, is in the process of being developed.
The workshop is also a venue for experimentation and creation. Each year, at least a dozen interns and apprentices are trained in the techniques of maintenance and construction of agricultural machines.
To aid the development and construction, Songhai has created another workshop for the fabrication of metal-based products (assembly/cutting room, forge, experimentation room, final product stock room, welding room, and painting room), a mechanical fabrication workshop, and an exposition room.

New PALMIST PRESS
In order to end up the palm nuts channel, and to respond to the demand or farmers, we have put all our efforts in 2003 to build a Palmist Press. Constructed with welded metal Made, the press has an electric motor.
Performance:
- 200 Kg of almond / hour
- Extracting rate of 35 %
Selling Price : 1 650 000 F CFA

New Foundry in Ouando's site.
| The production at te foundry effectively began at the start of november 2002 with the fabrication of aluminum, brass and cast iron pieces. The range of casted items now ranges from spare parts for agricultural materiel (motopomp, shaft bearing, etc.), to marmites, mill's cogs, arrows, pulleys, plates, screws (for the mechanics workshop and the artisanal sector), spare pieces for the bio gaz system, agro-industries units (burner and its accessory accessoires, etc.), irrigation systems, and artisan objects (artisanal bell, etc.). |

New prototype for developing the drier in Benin
| After the Gého Drier which have already prove itself, a final prototype The Maxicoq V2003 was created in June 2003 with our partner GERES. |

Conception modification of the drum on the manioc grater
. When the first version of the manioc grater was introduced, the drum was made of wood. After intensive use, humidity problems arose that made the quality of the final product irregular. Secondly, the lifespan of the part was relatively short, and the costs of maintenance were not negligible.
A drum fabricated from a recuperated sheet-metal pipe appeared to offer better performance, but issues arose with the rotation that often affected the quality of the manioc flour. |

|
After a number of brainstorming sessions and multiple attempts, a new aluminum drum has been conceived and fabricated by the new foundry. The aluminum now comprises an integral part of the current version of the manioc grater and the previous inconveniences have been bypassed. |
And coming soon
- The sorter-crusher for palmist nuts crush the palmist nuts and separator the shell from the almond in only one opération. This second task is usually hand made
- vibrating table to make roof tile.
- Anacarde (cashew nuts) shell remover
