Agro-biological production

The objectives of the agricultural production are as follows:

  • Promote the integrated system of agricultural production (diversification).
  • Manage the production units with a goal of making them profitable as well as remaining conscious of the environment.
  • Improve the productivity of production units (training given by Songhai cannot be credible if it is not validated on the field via profitability and research).
  • Supervise the student farmers and trainees.
  • Provide agricultural services for the installed farmers and the Songhai centers (ex. production of seeds and materials).

Songhai practices an agricultural production system that is feasible and inexpensive based on agro-biology. It integrates agriculture, animal husbandry, and fish farming in addition to pre- and post-production activities such as mechanical processing and marketing.

These different sectors are the anchors of the farmers' training. The workshops are therefore venues of production (emphasizing profitability) and of training. The students learn not only techniques of production, but also methods of managing agricultural activities with an objective of optimizing profitability

At Songhai, emphasis is placed on the development of all the "negative entropies" (degradations / recovering and valorizing energies and nutrients) through the creation of networks, energy flux, and the respect of nature's cycles. This systemic approach therefore integrates decay as an element of creation.

The prominence of the use of agricultural plant and animal by-products constitutes for Songhai a response to the management of numerous problems that harm the environment.
As the real dynamic base of Songhai, production constitutes the training framework for young agricultural entrepreneurs. Production is carried out on the principles of synergy; the system of production allows the recycling and reusing of lost energy. The interactions between the three pillars - agriculture, animal husbandry, and fish farming - constitute the strength of this system where nothing is wasted.

Songhai Integrated Production System

Nothing is wasted, everything is transformed.…

The Production of Songhaï is distinguished from the traditional productions by a certain number of specificities:

1- The valorization of the larvae of the domestic flies and of by products of the brewery for the production of the maggots at a large great scale and their use in the animal feeds

2- The valorization of the larvae of the domestic flies and of by products of the brewery for the production of the maggots at a large great scale and their use in the animal feeds

3- The valorization of the water Hyacinthe by its use for the fertilization of the poor soils and the production of biogas

4- Multiplication of the cat fish by the artificial spawning through artificial insemination

5- The use of the vegetable (amaranthe, papaws and cassava leaves …) for a better colouring of the egg yolk

6- The introduction of the pure line of the porcine race "Large White" to Songhaï

7- The introduction of new non-existent poultry races either inBenin or in West Africa like the hens YAFFA, chickens of races SUSSEX and KABIR

8- The introduction and multiplication of a non-existent variety of bananas plantain in Benin

9- Production of local turkeys on a large scale (1.200 to 1.600 per year)

10- The use of the technic of assisted reproduction at the time of the crossing between the local turkeys and the turkeys of flesh
